About Us
Chartered Accounting firms typically revolve around its partners and leaders and Steve Bennett Associates certainly has its namesake to thank for the strong firm that exists today. While Bennett is a well-known name in Maoridom (from Te Arawa), as a youngster, Steve Bennett was strongly encouraged by his father to use his brains and merit to get ahead, rather than the Maori scholarships offered to him at the time.
Steve initially started his career in the banking industry; this eventually led a role with the Government which was primarily audit and investigation type work. Having a desire to pursue a Chartered Accounting career Steve joined what is now the largest accounting firm in the world, and via this role was fortunate to be involved with the firms’ executive leasing programme and was also involved in a Secondment to the Serious Fraud Office. Steve was then posted internationally to gain further experience but a chance discussion allowed Steve the opportunity to return to Whangarei with his family.
Having worked for an International accounting firm both within New Zealand and Internationally Steve had a vision of developing a boutique team which catered to specific Northland business requirements. With a background in Assurance Services and Insolvency Management the creation of a firm with specialist divisions was a natural progression. In addition to more traditional accounting services Steve had a strong sense of the development of Maori Economic prosperity and wanted to share his business skills with Maori Enterprise, this became another division of the firm.
Steve Bennett Associates (SBA) was born and has been whanau orientated from the beginning. There is a feeling of respect and equality amongst the team at SBA which is reflected in the firm having the lowest staff turnover rate in Whangarei. These same values extend to the clients.
Today Steve Bennett Associates are proud to offer:
- Auditing Services: SBA are the largest independent auditors for Northland trusts, etc.
- Maori Business Development: offering accounting, auditing and mentoring as an approved provider by government and national organisations.
- Small Business Services: helping smaller businesses in the north be successful while meeting their tax and accounting obligations.
